In the eyes of these visionaries, the car of the future will represent significant advancements in technology that will radically change our views of terrestrial transportation in general. They envision the transition to alternative energy sources to drive our engines, vehicles that will drive themselves with the help of GPS, the implementation of extravehicular control systems that will practically make traffic a thing of the past, the possibility of driving at extremely fast speeds in total safety, total integration of man and machine in vehicular design, cars that will park themselves, and much much more!

But what if I told you that you can get a glimpse of the car of the future today, running on today’s technology, built into your own car, whatever kind of car it may be? It’s true that many of the advances that I mentioned above are still a long way from being implemented on a commercial scale, but my intention is not to give you false hopes about owning a car that functions the way that the visionaries of our time describe the car of the future. Development in this direction continues to progress, especially after the advent of Bluetooth technology – effectively unwiring many devices and placing them in locations where they are more easily accessed by drivers.

Finally, all these innovations in the car of the future will culminate in a system where the drivers will practically be non-existent. Instead, cars will drive and navigate themselves between destinations with minimal human intervention. The role of the human will shift from the work of navigating the vehicle to enjoying the journey with few distractions. Perhaps, one day, we’ll just be lounging around in our cars watching movies on the road while our cars drive themselves – and we’re already seeing more and more entertainment options available for the enjoyment of the occupants of a vehicle in systems like on-board DVD players.

After recently crashing my dad’s car, and paying $2,700 to repair purely cosmetic body damage, I decided it was time to buy my own car. I simply tune my radio to an unused FM frequency, and the transmitter broadcasts my jams through that channel. That means I don’t have to pay for a new stereo! Whats more, this MP3 device also comes with a MIC, speakers, and Bluetooth capability for making hands-free phone calls in the car. Since talking on a cell phone and driving is now illegal in Washington, this really comes in handy.

The best part is, since I got this at a wholesale price of just $36, I have $164 left to spend on some speakers. I know this isn’t a huge budget, but I think I can make it work. Anyone know where to get good deals on subwoofers?

I enjoy driving. Actually, I love it. I recently drove across the country with a good friend of mine. She needed a ride to the East Coast, and I was unemployed and looking for adventure. Everything started out well – we had plenty to talk about, and both enjoyed playing car games. We played Ghost, Geography, and 20 questions for a couple of hours, and had some great conversations. However, coming up on hour 6, I was pretty much done talking. I just wanted to sit back, put the car on cruise control, and enjoy the open road. Unfortunately, this is right when my friend decided it was a good time to start telling me about her boyfriend and the problems in their relationship. This is when I started to get worried about the length of time her and I would be spending in the car together. I didn’t want to offend her by telling the truth – that I just wasn’t in the mood to talk anymore. But I also didn’t want to keep pretending that I was interested in her boyfriend’s opinion of her brother-in-law.

I decided to take a chance. As she described watching Harry Potter with her boyfriend, and how she knew he wasn’t that into it but went anyway, I interjected, “Hey, have you seen the latest Harry Potter?”

“No,” she replied, “I heard it’s good though.”

This was my chance! I just so happened to have the DVD with me, and had recently equipped my Toyota with an In-car DVD player. She seemed excited about watching it, so I popped it in and it worked like a charm. She watched the movie contentedly for 2 hours, and then took a nap until we reached the day’s destination. As I contemplated life’s greater questions while taking in the scenery in silence, I was glad I had decided to buy a DVD car player.

Car GPS Navigation System – Better than Mapquest

I was recently invited to a party with co-workers at a house in the suburbs. The best part is that I was invited by the host, Emily, a woman I had been trying to get a date with for months. I knew this was my chance. In preparation for the event, which was only a casual barbecue, I got a haircut, put on my best casual yet nice outfit, bought some new cologne, shaved, and clipped my fingernails. I was looking and smelling like a million bucks, and ready to make a good impression. I marinated some meat to bring so she would know I could cook, and also made sure I read the newspaper for a week beforehand so I wouldn’t look stupid if she wanted to discuss world events. I was more prepared for this barbecue than I had been for my last job interview.

As I was getting ready to leave on Sunday, I put the address of the event into Mapquest and printed out the directions. Everything was going great until I arrived at my destination. When I say “my destination,” I mean the destination that Mapquest had directed me to – an abandoned building in the middle of nowhere. I was highly skeptical that this was the place where the party was being held, so I double-checked the directions and drove around the block looking for a house with people grilling in the yard. There were none to be found.

At this point I decided I was nowhere near where I wanted to be, and was forced to call Emily to ask for directions. She had to sit on the phone with me for 20 minutes in order to guide me to the party, and I felt like an idiot. Whats worse, when I finally did show up, Steve from shipping already had his arm around her and didn’t leave her side the whole evening. Apparently he has the best car GPS navigation system available and had showed up early to help her prepare. Why didn’t I think of that?

I am still looking for my soul mate. However, if she should ever invite me to a party outside the city, I will be able to show up before the competition thanks to the new GPS carnavigation monitor I have installed in my ride. GPS for car – approx. $100. Showing up before Steve – Priceless.
