After recently crashing my dad’s car, and paying $2,700 to repair purely cosmetic body damage, I decided it was time to buy my own car. My budget for this endeavor was $1400, which was lucky since a friend of mine was looking to get rid of his ’98 Saturn before moving out of the country for a year. I talked him down to $1200, and I am now rolling in style. The only problem is, the sound system he has in the car consists of factory speakers and an FM radio. I want to bump my favorite MP3s while driving, but I’ve only got $200 dollars to spend on the sound system. Purchasing and installing a new stereo will cost at least $200, and that leaves me with no extra money for speakers.
Fortunately, I was able to get my hands on a Steering Wheel Bluetooth Car MP3 for $36. This baby attaches to the steering wheel of my car and can transmit MP3s to the FM radio. I simply tune my radio to an unused FM frequency, and the transmitter broadcasts my jams through that channel. That means I don’t have to pay for a new stereo! Whats more, this MP3 device also comes with a MIC, speakers, and Bluetooth capability for making hands-free phone calls in the car. Since talking on a cell phone and driving is now illegal in Washington, this really comes in handy.
The best part is, since I got this at a wholesale price of just $36, I have $164 left to spend on some speakers. I know this isn’t a huge budget, but I think I can make it work. Anyone know where to get good deals on subwoofers?
